Girard-Perregaux The Chamber of Wonders – The Pearl of Wonders

Girard-Perregaux The Chamber of Wonders – The Pearl of Wonders

— The Chamber of Wonders encompasses three watches, three eras, three worlds interpreted with exceptional expertise.

Girard-Perregaux, La Perle des Merveilles

Girard-Perregaux renews and transcends the tradition of the famous Cabinets of Curiosities, the forerunners to museums which emerged in Renaissance Europe in the Chamber of Wonders collection. Through the honorary name, Chamber of Wonders, the brand opens a doorway into a place brimming over with amazing treasures: discoveries, secrets, fabulous stories, natural assortments and curiosities of all forms.

Thanks to the talents of artisans of miniatures, who craft fine detail over a background of extraordinary materials, this Chambers of Wonders collection offers three meticulously immortalized cartographic parentheses of time in the limited space of a watch dial. Today, we are introducing the first model: The Pearls of Wonders.

Circular like the circumference of a classic watch, the map drawn during the first half of the fifteenth century by historian Ibn al-Wardi is, in itself, a concentrated moment of history. Firstly it is inspired by the theories of Ptolemy who is considered to be the father of geography. This atlas of the world demonstrates, at the turning point between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the influence of Arab culture on other civilizations. Arab astronomy was very advanced in the Middle Ages, as they described the constellations, created maps of the sky and perfected instruments such as the astrolabe.

Centered on the Arabian peninsula, the hub of the sacred pilgrimages, the unlikely lines of this mythical map allow us to recognize Africa hosting the mountains where the Nile takes its source. The river, represented by a wide blue line, suddenly flows into the Mediterranean at an abrupt right angle. In the center, surrounded by the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf surmounted by the Indian ocean, the Arabian Peninsula occupies a semicircle. Other noticeable elements are the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean and, in the distance, India, Sindh and China.

To render such a monument of ancient history, what could be more appropriate than the sodalite stone with its isometric structure, composed of silica-poor minerals? Its characteristic blue color and its open crystalline structure are incentives to plumb the depths of knowledge further. This sodalite stone, known for its hardness, comes from a block from which a disk 0.70 mm high is cut and polished manually. It is meticulously carved and engraved by hand. It takes almost 4 hours of scalpel work for it to house the fragmented mosaic of a papyrus, 0.25 mm thick. Once locked between two steel plates, to ensure that its surface is perfectly flat, the parchment, like an unexpected territory of expression, can accommodate the talent of a miniature painter who, for 28 hours, reproduced the contours of the ancient map. Then a coat of lacquer covers the work of art with a thin protective and stabilizing veil. In total, approximately 50 hours work is needed to realise The Pearl of Wonders.

Three watches, three eras, three worlds interpreted with exceptional expertise; The Pearl of Wonders, the Terrestrial Map, and The New World. Renaissance images are immortalized by Girard-Perregaux on three dials, in numbered pieces within a trio of pink gold Girard-Perregaux 1966 watches fitted with an automatic manufacture caliber, all delivering different perspectives and emotions. Born in the workshops of the Manufacture, the GP03300 caliber highlights Girard-Perregaux’ tradition of watchmaking and guarantees reliability and precision. Its mainplate and its bridges are carefully drawn, chamfered, and circular-grained and decorated with Côtes de Genève. Composed of 205 parts, it offers a 46-hour power reserve at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Its 25.60 mm diameter (11 ½ lines) for a thickness of 4.20 mm is perfectly suited to the refined lines of an elegant pink gold case, developed and made in the workshops of the Manufacture. A model of harmony sporting the remarkable detail of a gently sloping and polished bezel to highlight its thinness.

Baselworld 2015 My masculine “best-of”

Baselworld 2015 My masculine “best-of”

— Not necessarily complicated, somewhat understated and definitely intelligent: my favourite replica watches for sale at the Baselworld show all have a special something.

Glashütte, Hublot, Chopard, Seiko, Hermès

Rarely has a Rolex replica watches show begun with so many clouds on the horizon as this Baselworld 2015. The worldwide economic difficulties and the recent spike of the Swiss franc had spoilt the fake watches UK party at the SIHH. Fortunately, however, the situation has brightened slightly since then, the initial shock wave has passed and this show proved genuinely rich in several ways, particularly when it comes to pricing.

While a number of brands introduced attractively priced products, two of them definitely stand out from the rest. On the one hand, Tudor is now offering its Pelagos diver’s model in an all-titanium, vibrant blue version equipped with a Manufacture (meaning in-house-made) chronometer-certified movement with a 72-hour power reserve, in an eminently wearable 42 mm size and water-resistant to 500 meters – and all this for just 4,200 francs. Enough to make you rub your eyes even on paper, but on the wrist the model turns out to be cool, perfectly finished and certainly does not give the impression of any skimping on quality.

Meanwhile, Hermès has launched an aggressively priced line that is an unaccustomed move for the brand. Slim d’Hermès is equipped with a movement featuring a micro-rotor (made by the Vaucher firm in which Hermès is a substantial stakeholder) and measures a modest 8.1 mm thick. The goal is clearly not to break records, but to offer an unobtrusive, refined, unmistakably Hermès style of wear. Considerable care has been devoted to the dial that features original font options, notably including tiny breaks that lighten up the Arabic numerals. The hands feature a double sandblasted and polished finish creating a trompe l’oeil effect that also gives them a lighter feel. And once again, all this for less than 6,000 francs in the steel version. Here again, the perfectly elegant and understated result proves extremely pleasing on the wrist.

Understatement is the hallmark of the Grand Seiko. Entirely produced in Japan, Seiko’s high-end brand cultivates a pure design that remains untouched over the years, together with mechanical refinement all its own. Its Hi-Beat GMT embodies what it does best. Seiko has its own three-hand plus date calibre beating at 5 Hz and which has been coupled here with a dual-time function. The model is incredibly comfortable to wear since it is made of titanium, although without radiating the typical sporty look of models in this metal. Polishing is omnipresent but not showy. The dial is finely textured, the diameter modest and the final result truly impeccable.

In this same elegant tone, but this time in the haute horlogerie segment, the Chopard L.U.C 1963 Tourbillon brilliantly sums up the range and depth of Chopard’s expertise. Its 40 mm diameter case – a new size for the 1963 collection and indeed for L.U.C models with sophisticated complications in general – houses a tourbillon with a magnificently polished bridge, an 8-day power reserve (a classic Chopard feature), a subtly retro design, and above all a smooth, shiny and luminous Grand Feu enamel dial. While this model takes us out of the eminently affordable range, Chopard still puts a fairly reasonable price tag on this model endowed with multiple complications and above all exuding an aura of discreet refinement.

When it comes to complications and sobriety, the Senator Cosmopolite by Glashütte Original deserves a special mention. The German brand belonging to the Swiss replica watch Group has developed a brand-new self-winding movement equipped with two rare features – a three-quarter plate and a double balance-cock – and coupled it with its worldtime module. The latter was first introduced on their Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon, a Grand Complication model produced in extremely limited numbers. It displays the time in the 37 timezones around the globe: the 24 standard ones and the exceptions offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by 15, 30 or 45 minutes. In addition, it also enables the user to switch between summer (Daylight Saving Time, DST) and winter (standard) times for the timezones that have adopted this mode of operation. Everything is read off in two discreet apertures with a standard set of hands. It is in fact the most readable and complete worldtime model. As is often the case with Breitling replica watches by Glashütte Original, it will probably go unnoticed – which is all the more a pity given its impeccable elegance.

My last favourite at this cheap fake watches show is at the opposite end of the spectrum: not classical, not understated, not discreet and definitely not affordable. And yet what a model! The Classic Fusion Minute Repeater Carbon by Hublot sounds like no other minute-repeater watch. It features a low-pitched tone that is reminiscent of that heard at level crossings, and above all offers an almost unique acoustic quality. Its chime is loud and lasting. It can be heard from far off and for a long time. Its solid carbon case places it firmly outside the usual parameters applied to minute-repeaters, in terms of both appearance and construction. Hublot is sometimes a genuinely iconoclastic brand capable of the very best in terms of pure horology, as this standout model eloquently demonstrates.

Louis Moinet Reinventing the face of the chronograph

Louis Moinet Reinventing the face of the chronograph

— Marking an historic crossroads between its 10th anniversary and the bi-centenary of the chronograph, Louis Moinet unveils Memoris, the first ‘chronograph- replica watches for sale’.

Louis Moinet Memoris

Les Ateliers Louis Moinet, an independent company based in the village of Saint-Blaise (Canton Neuchâtel) has just celebrated its 10th anniversary. Basking in the glow of the prize recently awarded by UNESCO for its contribution to the development of the watchmaking art, it is unveiling at Baselworld a new milestone aimed at restoring the name of Louis Moinet (1768 – 1853) to its rightful place in the master-watchmakers’ hall of fame, as much for his treatise on watchmaking, a touchstone of modern horological theory, as for his invention of the high-frequency chronograph (1816).

It is indeed with the chronograph that Louis Moinet is once again distinguishing itself in 2015, as its CEO Jean-Marie Schaller cleverly points out, “to celebrate our 10th anniversary and the 199th anniversary of the compteur de tierces” – the exact name of this first ever chronograph, dated 1816.

Memoris, the first ‘chronograph- cheap replica watches’

This new release “is probably the most important launch we’ve ever done,” explains Jean-Marie Schaller. “It’s a bridge, the embodiment of memory, that which lives today on yesterday’s foundations”.

Memoris, the first ‘chronograph-watch’.
© Ateliers Louis Moinet

The spectacular Memoris is the first creation ever to reveal the entire chronograph movement on the dial side.  It is thus not merely a skeleton model or a dial-free Swiss replica watches, but instead a movement based on an unprecedented construction whose chronograph complication has been specifically designed and built to be placed on the dial side, in the upper part of the watch, while its main going train remains on the case-back side.

The central element of the Memoris is its coupling clutch, for which Louis Moinet has chosen a vertical column-wheel version in keeping with the finest horological traditions. This component thus appears at 12 o’clock in an extremely prominent position. It is activated by a single pusher, another tribute to watchmaking traditions. The entire complication thereby occupies the largest surface area of the model and is clearly designed to be revealed in full – making it the first replica watches UK chronograph in watchmaking history. Timekeeping shifts from being a function to being the primary focus, with telling the time becoming secondary. Louis Moinet is thereby paying a vibrant tribute to the invention by the eponymous founder of the Ateliers.

As we have come to expect from a brand that produces only two fake watches UK per day, the Memoris with its 46 mm diameter will be available in two versions issued in 60-piece limited editions: one in white gold and the other in pink gold.

AstroMoon, head in the stars

The AstroMoon is the second major new launch from Louis Moinet this year. It is based on a calibre inspired by a benchmark 1970s movement, the Venus 179. It features a monocompax double-pusher chronograph function with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a large sweep-seconds hand. The latter is tipped with a star, like the previoiusly introduced Astralis model, while the hands showing the time end with a Goutte de Rosée (dewdrop), that has become one of the brand’s aesthetic signature touches. This is however the first time that it introduces a model with a dial in aventurine, whose intense blue colour is picked up on the screws visible on the dial side as well as by the strap.

The model also features a particularly broad tourbillon carriage held by an upper bridge built on the same model as the chronograph disc. Once again, Louis Moinet thereby highlights the aesthetic link between its two favourite themes (precision with the regulating organ and chronometry with the chronograph). The best fake watches UK also displays the moon phase at 6 o’clock in a totally open way that provides an optimal view of the raw material composing it: authentic lunar meteorite.

Mecanograph City and Derrick Tourbillon : next in line

Louis Moinet rounds off this Baselworld 2015 with two variations on existing models. The first relates to its Derrick Tourbillon that was presented in 2013 and got a politely sceptical reception. We all saw what happened then, since the Derrick Tourbillon sold out extremely fast and has become a brand best-seller that has been repeatedly re-issued in ever more exclusive editions. The latest 12-piece limited series features an enamelled dial framed by a white gold case and reprises the now famous animated oil derrick.

Louis Moinet’s journey ends in Moscow, to which it dedicates the latest chapter in its Mecanograph City saga. This collection created in 2013 pays tributes to the world’s greatest capitals. “After New York and Qatar, Moscow features a guilloché pattern that is again different, more intense and yet darker and more mysterious”, says Jean-Marie Schaller. “It’s a tribute to a city with an exceptional artistic past and a keen fascination for hand craftsmanship, as the Fabergé eggs have long since proven”. Available in pink or white gold versions, the Mecanograph City “Moscow” will also be enriched with an authentic lunar meteorite fragment and issued in two 60-piece editions.

Replica Louis Vuitton Escale Time Zone

Replica Louis Vuitton Escale Time Zone

— Louis Vuitton replica watches unveils a new travel time complication with the Escale Time Zone, making accessible to a wider audience the distinctive and colourful dial that was introduced last year.

Escale Time Zone © Louis Vuitton

The Escale Worldtime presented by Louis Vuitton replica watches UK at Baselworld last year was notable for its absence of hands. The synchronized world time could nevertheless be read at a glance against a pointer at 12 o’clock, with three concentric rotating discs ensuring that each of the 24 time zones visible around the dial was constantly displaying the correct time.

The uniqueness of the dial on this model is beyond doubt, but the work that goes into the colourful dial is less apparent. As is often the case with such miniature works of art, neither a painting nor a video can do justice to the craftsman’s skill. Only a first-hand visit to the Louis Vuitton watchmaking manufacture, which was inaugurated in Geneva last year, can illustrate the painstaking level of detail involved in hand-painting each of the time zone city initials and the vibrant symbols that accompany them. This also explains why so very few of the white-gold Escale Worldtime models have been produced – painting the dial alone requires over 40 hours of work!

Fresh for Baselworld 2015, Louis Vuitton addresses presents this travel-themed look in a new form that makes the Escale model much more accessible. A steel case, a revised movement and a more manageable means of reproducing the colourful dial will mean that more of the brand’s 460 stores worldwide will be able to showcase this piece.

Escale Time Zone.
© Louis Vuitton

In the new Escale Time Zone, the display looks similar but is based on a traditional GMT function, rather than a synchronized world time model. Instead of three discs, there are now two, which the wearer can set to the time zone in a particular city using the crown. The two outer rings featuring the cities corresponding to the world’s 24 time zones and their colourful symbols are maintained but in this case are pad printed by hand rather than individually hand-painted. The local time is shown in a more familiar manner by means of centrally-placed hour disc and minute hand, whose axis is covered by a striated black disc bearing the sober brand and model name, in keeping with the design of the Escale World Time model.

The LV 87 self-winding calibre from the Manufacture La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton is both smaller and thinner than the LV 106 used in the World Time model and thus allows for a smaller 39mm diameter case that is 1.5mm thinner. With less than half the components in the Worldtime model the LV 87 is also significantly less complex and offers an improved power reserve of 42 hours.

Despite their differences, the Escale Worldtime and the Escale Time Zone models share the same unique identity that makes them instantly recognisable as Louis Vuitton’s translation of its passion for the world of travel into contemporary cheap replica watchmaking codes.

IWC Portuguese Minute Repeater

This edition is limited to 500 watches in platinum and a further 500 in 18-carat red gold.

IWC, Portuguese Répétition Minutes

The patented repeating mechanism comprises some 250 individual parts working together as if in a mechanical orchestra. The design’s central elements are two steel gongs, which are struck by the two hammers when the repeating slide is pushed down. The minute repeater chimes out each full hour that has elapsed since noon or midnight with a single strike on the deeper-pitched gong (the tone is B flat), every quarter since the last full hour with a double strike – one on each gong – and every minute that has passed since the last quarter with one strike on the higher-pitched of the gongs. An all-or-nothing piece ensures that the chimes are only struck if the repeating slide is pushed down fully. The watch is equipped with the 98950-calibre hunter pocket watch movement, which goes back to the 1930s and which has since then been further developed, improved and modernized. The see-through sapphire-glass back provides an open view of the stylistic elements of the early F. A. Jones calibres, such as the elongated index, which facilitates the fine adjustment of the effective length of the balance spring. The nickel-silver plate and threequarter bridge are decorated with circular graining and Geneva stripes, respectively.
